Accessibility.

A publication that cannot be read by everyone is not finished. This is where we are, honestly stated.

Our standard

We build towards WCAG 2.2 AA. In practice that means readable contrast, text that scales, meaningful headings, described photographs and forms that announce themselves properly.

Keyboard and screen readers

Every part of the site can be reached without a mouse. A skip link opens each page, focus is always visible, and search opens with the ⌘K or / key and closes with Escape.

Motion

Movement here is quiet by intention. If your device requests reduced motion, transitions and drifting photography are switched off entirely.

Where we fall short

Some archive photography still lacks the descriptive depth we would like, and we are working through it story by story.

If something here is difficult to use, please write to us through the contact page. We treat it as a fault to be fixed, not feedback to be filed.
