A Set of Marquetry Tools
Handles worn to the shape of one grip, then handed to a hand that held them differently.
Steel and boxwood · Forty years

The record
There are nine of them, and only six were bought together. The others were added over the years to replace tools that had been sharpened past usefulness.
Each handle carries the print of a particular grip. When the workshop passed to a granddaughter, she found she could not hold two of them as they had been held, and had them reshaped rather than pretend.
The roll they live in is leather and has been restitched twice. It is dated inside in three different hands.
